Concept · Mobile game studio

Playforge

Play through the studio's page as a game: pick a character, unlock skills, beat a boss and submit a project.

What we did

A game studio's portfolio often looks like any agency site, which weakens the pitch. We tested a page that is itself a game, so visitors try the studio's gamification work instead of reading about it.

  • Game studio site
  • Quest and XP system
  • Boss fight
  • High score form

The background film changes with every level.

One of the concept's own level films; this one plays behind character select.

  1. 1Each of the five levels has its own film
  2. 2The film fades out and the next one fades in when it starts playing

The big idea

Quests and XP

A quest log lists seven tasks, such as entering initials, picking a character and defeating the boss. Both quests and scrolling earn XP toward 1,000.

01

Character select

The studio's three games appear as selectable characters with genre and stats.

02

Skill tree

Scrolling earns skill points that unlock the studio's tech stack tier by tier.

03

Boss fight

Fast scrolling or the attack button hits the boss; each hit closes a bug, and combos raise the damage.

04

High score contact form

The contact form is a high score entry, with the visitor's XP as the score.

How we did it

Step by step.

  1. 01

    The page split into levels

Start, character, skills, boss and victory follow one another; a bar at the bottom shows the level, the corner shows XP and the player's rank.

  2. 02

    Games as characters

Each game card has power, speed and retention bars and a short line on how it plays; arrow keys move between them.

  3. 03

Tech stack as a skill tree

Engines and tools sit on a tree drawing; each tier is unlocked with skill points, or opens on its own at the end of the level.

  4. 04

A boss with a combo counter

Hits lower the boss's health bar and raise a combo counter; long combos give an achievement, and three chests drop at the end.

  5. 05

The contact form as a scoreboard

The visitor's XP and play time are written into the table next to the form; consent is a separate checkbox.

Why we did it this way

A studio that sells gamification should let visitors play its own page.
